The need to keep our environment clean and healthy is increasing all the time. Planned giving in support of our conservation and environment initiatives leaves a powerful legacy, supporting a healthy future for generations to come. A planned gift is a thoughtful way to give — satisfying your charitable objectives while maximizing tax and other financial and personal benefits.
Before committing to a legacy gift to the RVCF, please contact your lawyer and/or financial advisor to achieve maximum benefit for your generosity and to make sure that the suggested language below is right for your situation. Most importantly, please discuss your intentions with your family.
A Bequest in Your Will
Leaving a donation in your will is a powerful way to add meaning to your life and ensure your memory lives on. You can provide for your family in your will while also protecting our natural resources.
When you provide a gift in your will, you can commit either a set amount or a percentage of your estate. It might be deferred until after the death of your spouse or partner. A bequest to the RVCF can significantly reduce taxes payable upon death as your estate will receive a charitable donation receipt for the full value of the bequest.
An undesignated bequest allows the RVCF to use your gift where it is needed most. A designated bequest will direct your gift for specific conservation purposes like conservation area protection, tree planting, outdoor education or water quality monitoring.
Here are examples of language you could use in your will:
For an undesignated bequest:
“I give the Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation, located at 3889 Rideau Valley Drive Box 599, Manotick, Ontario, with the charitable registration number 11911 9501 RR0001, the sum of $_____ (or ___% of my estate) to be used as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.”
For a bequest in support of a specific program:
“I give the Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation, located at 3889 Rideau Valley Drive Box 599, Manotick, Ontario, with the charitable registration number 11911 9501 RR0001, the sum of $ ____ (or ___% of my estate) to be used in support of (specific program.)
